Whiffin Spit is located between Sooke Harbour and the Juan De Fuca Strait...not Sooke Basin which is 4 miles away...

Nice walk with the family. had breakfast at Sooke Harbour House and walked the spit afterward. I use a wheelchair and we managed it just fine without a special chair. The surface is packed fine gravel with a few soft spots and slight grades.
There were lots of dogs, some on leash, many not, but the owners were all great and the dogs were under pretty good control. We met many friendly locals and had a good time. The outhouse near the end was clean and had toilet paper and sanitizer. The trail was well maintained and we didn’t see any garbage or doggie doo.

Nice place for a walk on the spot in front of Sooke harbour.
There is no problem with dogs but the parking lot at the trailhead is extremely small so on a nice days expect to find a full parking lot unless you come early in the day or in the evening.

Off leash does not mean dogs are under control. Whiffin Spit has become an unpleasant walk with unruly dogs and multiple bags of dog droppings on the walk way and all along the shore.
Shame on Sooke for allowing this once beautiful peaceful walk to become a dog park.
