Highway 22 from Victoria writes:
Hiked this trail Dec 31, 2015, with an additional side trip to Stewart Mtn. The trails were excellent, with some mud but not excessive. This trail deserves its difficult rating, not because of the terrain or elevation, but because of the navigation. Compared to the local Provincial Parks (Gowlland Tod and Goldstream), the trails in this Regional Park are much less well marked. There were numerous unmarked side trails and junctions, and the signposts that were present are related to landmarks (e.g. Thetis Lake and Stewart Mtn Rd), not the trails as named on the map. If you are planning to go into the backcountry at Thetis Lk and aren't a local expert, make sure you have a compass and map, if not a GPS. Check the compass direction at junctions and match it to what you expect in order to stay on the right path. It is worth the effort. Cellphone coverage was nearly complete (Telus) but there were definite gaps.
