Overview
Elk Falls and the suspension bridge are located west of Campbell River on Vancouver Island along the Quinsam River. The Provincial Park has several hiking trails with a highlight being the suspension bridge and viewing platform that offers incredible views of Elk Falls. The water flow for is managed by BC Hydro for the nearby John Heart Generating Station.
From the day-use parking lot, walk to the map board and follow the well marked trail into the forest. The trail veers left and a metal bridge over some giant pipes before reaching a junction on the other side. Go left at the junction and follow the signage. A short distance further, go right at the sign to Elk Falls.
Walk down the trail a short distance, then down a set of stairs where you reach the viewing platform overlooking Elk Falls. The waterfall drops about 25 meters (82 feet) into the deep canyon below. Walk across the suspension bridge to view Elk Falls and the many views of the beautiful canyon. After returning from the suspension bridge, there is a side viewing platform that offers a different angle view of the water.
After enjoying Elk Falls, return to the parking lot by leaving the viewing area and going left at the junction. Turn right at the second junction and cross over the giant pipes as the trails takes you back to where you began your walk.
Driving Directions
Elk Falls is located west of Campbell River, BC, just off of Highway #28: Gold River Highway.
Driving from the southern Vancouver Island area, follow Highway #19 north to Campbell River. When you reach the town of Campbell River, turn left at the lights onto Campbell River Road. Stay on the road for about 5km as it turns into Highway #28. Watch for signs to Elk Falls Provincial Park and turn right and drive into the parking lot.

Dog-Friendly
Dogs are allowed in Elk Falls Provincial Park and must be leashed at all times due to the crowded areas and risk of wildlife encounters (ie. cougars). Please pick up after your dog and dispose of poop bags in nearby trash cans.
Toilets
Outhouses are located near the parking lot area.
