It is most beautiful and wonderful. Been hiking Mt. Finlayson for 35 years, most recently have completed 59 hikes in 10 months with my companion Whippet. My companion reached 11 end of February and I'm 67. Most recent 10 months have been wearing minimus footwear to enable a better connection with Mother Nature and my companion..

As a fit 60 year old hiker, I found this moderately challenging. I did this in about 1.5 hours return. The trail is well-marked, and you need to scramble for some sections on the upper part.

The trail is indeed difficult but the view is worth it. I can confirm that it's essential to be careful while climbing the rocky part. However, the trail description doesn't mention it but there isn't only one way back (the same way you go up). Going down by the same way might be scary, especially the steep rocky part, as it was for myself. I was freaked out. Going up is one thing but getting back down is another matter. So don't worry, there is another way down the mountain following the trail and the orange markers. You'll walk down through the forest to get to the road, turn left and 40 minutes later, you'll get back to the bridge near the parking area.

Not sure why this is getting such great reviews. Maybe cause this is as nice as it gets for the island? I live on the mainland and lots of the hikes I’ve done are spectacular. Anyways, this wasn’t hard imo, pup and me got to the top pretty quick but the view wasn’t too impressive so we didn’t spend any time at the top.

A beautiful day. The salmon were running in the streams at the base. A quick and some times slippery (raining) climb up well marked trails. Great view from the top while eagles soared near by. I went down the back side to avoid the slippery wet rock face. It was perfect but added some time and distance. Ended up on a lightly used road 3 km from the parking lot.

It was a stunning hike. Loads of challenges but worth getting to the top for the amazing views. It was a clear sunny day & we saw Mount Baker covered in snow. I will definitely do the hike again. Loved it.

I strongly recommend hiking up the back side, from near Caleb Pike Road parking lot. The back side is very enjoyable, no rock scrambling involved, and you still get the reward of the amazing views at the top! Its still a moderate hike, though, because there's a lot of vertical rise, but hey its a mountain! Worth the effort!

We found Mt Finlayson trails through a different website and thought we were in for a moderate hike. No chance! We climbed the peak using what we now know is this route - the hard way. Definitely not for the faint hearted, unfit or those afraid of heights. The scramble was however well worth it for the view at the top. There are easier routes and we took one down which was easier but a much longer way round (partly via the mountain road). At the time of writing, there are many trails on this Mount that are closed for environmental reasons so care is needed and, like us, you may find yourself walking further than anticipated.

I have hiked this trail a total of four times. It's challenging but very rewarding. My biggest issue with the trail is, how poorly it's marked. I feel the markers are obvious going up the mountain, but not coming down. In fact, almost everyone I've talked to have had the same issue. I've gotten lost at some point on each hike, and once got in some trouble. Therefore, I would highly encourage better marking on the return route. I would then give it a higher rating.

A beautiful and challenging hike. But allow a lot more than 1 and a half hours unless you are very comfortable with scrambling up and down rocks. 2 to 2.5 hours would be more reasonable and allow time to enjoy the journey.

This hike was more challenging than I expected because of the rocks and some of the sections where you had to use your hands, especially on the hike back down. I loved it though. It was a good workout and the views were pretty good from up top. I'd definitely do it again.
